Since the beginning of 2021, the volume of the global M&A market has reached $3.9 trillion, which is almost double the figures for 2020.

2021 could be a record year in terms of transaction volume, with the previous record of $4.3 trillion in 2007 — it is quite realistic to surpass it in the remaining four months before the end of this year.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 40 thousand mergers and acquisitions have been made. Even in the summer, which is considered to be the low season for transactions, M&A volumes continued to grow. In August, deals worth $500 billion were concluded, while in 2020 — only $289 billion.

What influenced such an active surge in the M&A activity:

• high profits of corporations and the growth of their shares;
• low-interest rates;
• accumulated trillions of dollars in investment funds.

The high-tech sector occupies 21% of the M&A market, which makes it a clear leader. This is due to the active development of companies during the pandemic and, as a result, the rise in prices for their shares.

12.1% of the M&A market is in the financial sector, 12% in industry, 9.6% in the energy industry, 9% in healthcare.
